The Division of Enteric Diseases provides diagnostic, reference and research services for clinical, food and waterborne pathogens including Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter, Vibrio, and Listeria. Reference services focus on the identification, subtyping and toxin testing of human-clinical isolates. Research activities focus on the development of advances in molecular techniques and the use of high-throughput proteomic and genomic technologies to provide accurate, rapid and comprehensive characterization of human-clinical isolates. This work is conducted in collaboration with the National Enteric Surveillance Program (NESP) and PulseNet Canada to support the national identification and response to enteric disease outbreaks.
