ELISA Test - IgM

ELISA Test IgM to Orientia tsutsugamushi.

• Scrub typhus

Specimen:  Serum sample.  Minimum volume required – 0.5 mL.

Note:  0.5 ml is sufficient volume for all requested Rickettsial testing on one sample.

Submit in a sterile microcentrifuge tube.

Store samples refrigerated or frozen until shipped for testing.  Ship frozen on dry ice or on wet ice.

Shipping of specimens shall be done by a TDG certified individual in accordance with TDG regulations. For additional information regarding classification of specimens for the purposes of shipping, consult either Part 2 Appendix 3 of the TDG Regulations or section 3.6.2 of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations as applicable.

Suspected scrub typhus infection; history of travel to an endemic region. Scrub typhus has almost exclusively been reported from Pakistan in the west to eastern Russia in the east to Australia in the south.

Completed Rickettsia and Related Zoonotic Diseases requisition including sender name, address and telephone number.  Patient name or identifier (referring lab #), date of birth, suspected exposure, test(s) requested and clinical history. Also include type of specimen, date collected, travel history and if possible, antibiotics administered.  

Note: A travel history compatible with the distribution of Orientia tsutsugamushi is required before testing will be performed.

Serum samples are tested at a 1:100 dilution in a qualitative, membrane based immunoassay for the detection of IgM antibodies to Orientia tsutsugamushi using InBios ELISA kit.
